My name is Jeremy Brandt. I was blessed to have been elected to serve on the Wood River Board of Education. I am married to my lovely wife of 12 years, Dawn, and we have two awesome kids, Cody is 12 and Maggie is 10.
I started my education in Wood River and later my family moved to Grand Island. I graduated from Grand Island Senior High in the class of 1998. I graduated with a class of nearly 500 students. My senior year, the district moved in the 9th grade class into the same building. There was now nearly 1,900 kids under one roof. This the very reason that my wife and I decided that we wanted to move back to Wood River to raise our family in a smaller school system and a town where we know almost everyone.
After high school, I started my college career at Central Community College in Grand Island working towards a degree in Criminal Justice, as I wanted to be a law enforcement officer. Through my high school career, I was a Police Explorer with the Grand Island and Hastings Police Departments. I made a mistake during this time, that since I had school bills piling up that I needed to work more and could finish school later in life.
Fast forward some years, I had decided that agriculture was my second passion and that I would come back to work in the Dannebrog and eventually Shelton area for local growers. I learned so much from both of my bosses about the many aspects of raising row crops (seed and commercial), alfalfa, cattle and hogs. This passion that was deep down, brought me to my current career with a local cooperative, where I get to work first hand with many local producers. While doing the career that I love, I also have started back to college to work on an agribusiness degree.
When not at work, my family and I are very vested in community service work. I am a leader in the Wood River Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and volunteer at my church. I do many different jobs and projects with the Grand Island Elks Lodge and the Nebraska Elks Association.
When deciding to run for a seat on the Wood River school board, I wanted to help the families of Wood River to continue to have a GREAT school system that the previous boards and administrations have provided for us. To the students of WRRSD, enjoy your school careers and be a part of everything that you can, as later in life you will wish that you had! When finished here, go off to college or tech. school and develop the skills for your passion as it is much harder to go back to school later in life.
GO EAGLES!
