The One Act team began their season at Ord with the Chanticleer Festival. Here the judges spend extra time critiquing the team instead of ranking them. It’s a good place and time to get some quality feedback. Two judges spent 30 minutes talking to each actor and actress about what they could do to better themselves. Although there was no ranking of the plays, outstanding actor and actress awards were given to each team and Wood River had five. Those five were Matty Luehr, Jordyn Leffler, Sloane Tiarks, Eric Winfield and Kaylee Reimers. We were given some good comments, many regarding the set which our art department was so generous to paint for us. “The set was truly amazing. Mrs. Wiseman and the art students put a ton of work into it and we got nothing but oohs and ahs all season long.”
After performing for the Wood River community on November 17, the One Act took their talents to the Conference meet at Ravenna on November 24. “This meet is always so competitive. The judges always tell us how this conference is the toughest in the state and it is.” Although we didn’t come away a winner, we did do very well. We walked away with five outstanding actor and actress awards. Those awards were won by Matty Luehr, Jordyn Leffler, Kaylee Reimers, Sloane Tiarks, and Dakota Schroll. ‘The kids did a good job. We still can improve but we stepped it up from where we were at Ord.” The play itself received a superior rank, which is the highest rank a judge can give.
“I really enjoyed this year. The kids were so workable and wanted to do well. I will miss the times I had with all of them. For the seniors I will miss you and wish you all the best. For the rest, tear it up next year and be the role models for the new kids on the block.”
“Since this is my last play, I do want to take this opportunity to say thank you- to the community, the parents and the kids I’ve had the pleasure to work with these last twelve years. It has been my pleasure and I’ve built some wonderful relationships with all of you. I have been so blessed. I only hope and pray that I have touched some lives in a positive way.”
