Hello! My name is John Thorp, and I am currently a senior at Wood River. I am the son of Todd and Michelle Thorp, and we live on a farm south of Wood River. I am the oldest of three children. My sister Lauren is a sophomore, and my brother Wyatt is an 8th grader. Instead of sports and other school activities, hard work has been my calling. For the last 5 years I have been gradually expanding my cow herd that my dad generously helped me start. I have also invested into the hay industry by purchasing a small square baler to put up hay with. After a few years, I was able to upgrade to a new baler. Last year was my most productive year, being that the help and I put up over 2000 small square grass bales. I then market this hay to buyers through the winter months, along with offering delivery. Additionally, I have entered into my first farm ground lease for the 2018 crop year and be playing in my own dirt this season. After I graduate high school I will pursue a degree in diesel technology and business management at Hastings CCC. During all of this schooling I plan to continue my haying operation, keep feeding the ladies, and work towards acquiring more acres to farm. In good time, I will marry my high school sweetheart and we will start our family together in Wood River.
