This is the first year that Wood River yearbook students have entered the competition, and we are excited to announce that seven of our students have qualified in six events.
We wish them luck at the upcoming NSAA State Journalism Competition. Congratulations, ladies!
Yearbook Theme Competition
To qualify for the state competition, students submitted 20 pages from our 2015-2016 yearbook. The preliminary submission was judged in the following areas: (1) Theme/Concept Development, (2) General Design, (3), Typography, (4) Graphics, and (5)Theme Copy. For the state competition, the top twelve preliminary finalists will be awarded based on their preliminary entries. |

Yearbook Layout Competition
To qualify for the state competition, these students submitted spreads from past or current editions of The Eagle yearbook. The preliminary submissions were judged in the following areas: (1) Photos, (2) Design, (3) Copy, and (4) Captions. For the state competition, these girls will compete individually to design a double-page yearbook spread. Students will be provided a story, photos and captions. Their final layout must include 5-9 photos with captions, a story and a headline written by the student. Outside material cannot be used. |

Headline Writing Competition
To qualify for the state competition, Andrea submitted three headlines that she completed in last year's yearbook. Her submission was judged in the following areas: (1) Accuracy/News Judgement, (2) Aesthetic, (3) Journalistic Style, and (4) Word Choice. For the state competition, Andrea will compete individually to write 3 headlines for a variety of subjects (including but not limited to sports, news, review, opinion, and feature) and mixed mediums (yearbook, online article, and print newspaper). |

Theme Copy Writing Competition
To qualify for the state competition, Dulce submitted the theme copy for the Student Life Divider from this year's yearbook. Her preliminary submission was judged in the following areas: (1) Theme Content, (2) Organization, (3) Word Choice, and (4) Conventions. For the state competition, Dulce will assume the role of a yearbook editor and choose from three themes provided to write an opening, closing and division page for the book of at least 150 but not more than 300 words each. |
