Things that you can do protect yourself are file early. Even if you don't need to file, file anyway. As I said earlier, be on guard for people pretending to be someone else. Phone messages and emails are the most common point of contact. If more than one return is filed in your name, you owe more taxes than you thought or the IRS indicates you received wages from someone that you never worked for are all indications that someone is tried to commit fraud. It isn't Christmas, but for scammers it seems like it. This is the time of the year when the pressure is on scammers to get your social security number and file a tax return. You may notice an increase of people calling or emailing you to try to sell you things like life insurance or claim they are from a bank. Be very skeptical of these people. They may also claim that they are from the IRS and need information from you. Simply ask for their name and badge number and tell them you will call them back. Find the IRS phone number online and call them back. With the name and badge number, they will be able to connect you to them. Most people think that they can spot a scam, but don't let them catch you off guard.

Taking Care of Your School Issued iPadAs winter approaches and the temperatures drop, I would like to remind students to take their iPads inside with them at all times. The cold temperatures will minimize battery and can adversely affect the inner workings of the iPad.
All Wood River middle and high school students were provided an iPad air, a case, charger, and a screen protector at the beginning of the school year. These items belong to the school and care needs to be taken when using them. Please keep food and drink away from the iPad and clean the screen with a cleaning cloth regularly. Make sure all cords are kept in working order. If the screen protector has become damaged please see Mr. Sheeks so he can document all breakage. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Hirchert or Mr. Sheeks Several teachers have classes set up within Quizlet. That means the vocabulary word lists are already created for your student and he or she can begin studying the flashcards, playing the games, and taking the practice quizzes. If you would like to know more about what Quizlet offers, check out the video below. |
