As most Nebraskans know, the Nebraska School Activities Association annually holds high school athletic and activity competitions. People are familiar with the process of school teams competing at districts and the winners moving on to the state competition in their respective classes. In the NSAA Journalism Competition, the process of qualifying for state is different, but similar. The first difference is that all schools are only divided into two categories: Class A for schools with enrollment of 464+ students and Class B for schools with enrollment below 440 students. The other difference lies with how students qualify for state. In the journalism competition, students may enter their work in the school's yearbook, newspaper, or website in one of the twenty-one different competition categories. Their preliminary work is then judged on various characteristics, and the top twelve students in each category (per class) are chosen as state qualifiers. The state qualifiers will then compete in Norfolk at the NSAA State Journalism Competition on Monday, April 23rd.

This is the second year that Wood River yearbook students have entered the competition, and we are excited to announce that seven of our students have qualified in twelve events.

We wish them luck at the upcoming NSAA State Journalism Competition. Congratulations, ladies!
